Whitecross, Abingdon

 

Creative design – Dennis & Linda approached Colman Property Services to help plan their new build project. We were involved from day one and spent valuable time with them initially presenting ideas and helping them to develop their sketches into basic drawings and a clear vision before Crawford Bond Architects drew up final plans of the new home ready to present for planning.


Access – Dennis was concerned about site access for the build but we managed to build good relationships with the adjoining landowners to ensure it would not cause any issues for the duration of the project.


Efficient building – Having been granted permission to construct the new 2 bedroom home we estimated six months to complete the project. The construction process from initial site clearance, through to handing over the keys took approximately five months. This included all landscaping work and agreed extras.


Green technology – Dennis and Linda’s budget did not allow for the installation of renewables however the underfloor heating system we specified provides a very efficient low cost solution for heating the property. The addition of solar panels at a later date was discussed at an early stage and therefore the electrical supply cable was also future-proofed to allow for installation of photo-voltaic roofs panels at a later date.

"From the moment I engaged Oliver and his architect Duncan Crawford, I knew I had the right team. Oliver is ultra-professional and ensures all possibilities are covered. He sets high standards so jobs are not just done – they are done properly and well.


This project was quite demanding as I wanted a lot fitted into a relatively small plot (8 metres by 7 metres). I congratulate Duncan on some smart thinking to come up with a design that met all my demands: 2 en-suite bed-rooms, 2 storage areas, a wet room for disabled showering yet still enough living space and kitchen facilities. Underfloor heating and recessed lighting were also requirements.


Neighbouring trees and the fact that the ground was more or less solid rock from two feet down were added complications.


Oliver is a good communicator and I was kept fully informed at each stage of the build as to what was going on and what would happen next. His workforce are reliable, efficient and friendly; they maintain the high standards that Oliver demands.


I can honestly say that Oliver delivered all that I asked of him. More than that, he made suggestions of little extras that would add the finishing touches – like a paved patio area at the back for instance.


My late mother-in-law would have been extremely pleased with the end result. My uncle and sister-in-law are very happy with it. I would have no hesitation in recommending Oliver to anyone else who wanted a similar job."
