Case Study

Woodstock Road, Oxford

 

Vision – Philip & Debbie were looking to restore their period Victorian mansion to it’s former glory whilst adding a substantial extension & dormer windows to open out the third floor.


Design – Duncan Crawford worked with the local planning officer to design tasteful modifications that were in keeping with the existing property and gain permission for the large extensions.


Restoration – As the property had been used as flats, particular attention was given to revealing the previous layout, allowing key features such as the patterned tile, hallway, coving and staircase to be reinstated.


Modernisation – Contemporary fitting were installed alongside traditional features to retain the property’s character whilst modernising significantly. The original sash windows were fully dismantled, routed out to fit 12mm double glazed units and re-built using new ropes and weights.


Green technology – An air source heat pump was installed to provide renewable energy which is now used to heat the hot water whilst providing cool exhaust air for the new wine store/cellar. All original floorboards were carefully lifted to fit an efficient under-floor heating system throughout. Boards were then re-laid and restored.
